Events in Ischia in September 2026: the island's calendar
September is the month the island goes back to celebrating for itself, not for tourists.
With the August rush behind it, Ischia picks its calendar back up: patron saint festivals in the villages, the grape harvest, cultural festivals. Here's what happens on the island in September 2026, town by town.
September in Ischia isn't a tail-end month. It's the month when the island goes back to doing things for itself: the villages' patron saint festivals, the grape harvest in the cellars of Panza, the festivals that take over the Castello Aragonese. Those who come during this period find the same sea as in August, plus an island that's alive, rather than one that's just serving.
Below is the September 2026 calendar, broken down by period. Dates are those announced by organisers: where the programme isn't yet final we note it, and it's always worth double-checking before travelling.
The first week: the festivals of a summer that's ending
The first days of September still have full summer weather, and the towns close out the season with their most popular events. Casamicciola Terme concentrates several evenings between the 2nd and 9th of September, while Forio opens the month with events in the centre, and Panza holds its Summer Fest.
4 September is the day of the Festa dell'Uva (Grape Festival), which symbolically opens the grape harvest period: it's when the island starts talking about wine, setting the stage for the month's most important event.
Mid-month: village festivals
On 12 September is the festival of Santa Maria al Monte, on the slopes of Monte Epomeo above Forio: one of the few occasions when crowds climb to 400 metres, between mass, procession and food stalls. It's a genuine village festival, not a re-enactment for visitors.
On 17 September in Lacco Ameno, an event from the Kepos project dedicated to Pithekoussai and Cumae is scheduled: mainly of interest to those drawn to archaeology, in a town that holds the Villa Arbusto museum.
From 18 September: Andar per Cantine and Ischia Safari
This is the event that defines September in Ischia. Andar per Cantine takes visitors into the island's wine cellars with shuttle, guide and tasting, starting from Piazza San Leonardo in Panza. Booking is mandatory and spots are limited: it's the kind of event worth planning your stay around in advance, not after.
From 20 to 22 September, in parallel, Ischia Safari celebrates the island's authentic flavours with three days dedicated to gastronomy: the Charity Dinner at Albergo della Regina Isabella (20 Sept), the Festa al Negombo (21 Sept) and Un dolce per Ischia at Lisola Restaurant (22 Sept). It's the ideal occasion for those who want to discover the island through its food and culture.
All month long: La Filosofia, il Castello e la Torre
The international philosophy festival La Filosofia, il Castello e la Torre turns the whole island into a space where thought meets landscape. Over a hundred free talks, exhibitions, concerts and workshops: philosophy stepping out of the lecture hall to engage with the community.
End of month: San Michele in Sant'Angelo
On 29 September the village of Sant'Angelo, in Serrara Fontana, celebrates San Michele Arcangelo. It's the festival that closes the month and, in effect, the season: a procession, illuminations and a village finally walkable without crowds by late September.
How to plan a stay around an event
The practical rule is simple: patron saint festivals fill the village hosting them, not the whole island. Staying in Sant'Angelo on the night of 29 September is convenient but not essential: the island can be crossed by bus or taxi in half an hour, and it's often better to stay in another town and travel in. For Andar per Cantine, on the other hand, departure is fixed from Panza, so the Forio area is the most convenient. Those choosing Ischia Safari for the gastronomy have the same advantage: three consecutive days with a stable base in Forio or Lacco Ameno.
September remains the month with the most availability and the lowest rates compared to August: the offers with stays in September are updated with the properties' real rate cards, and if you already have a date in mind tied to an event, we can check availability before it sells out.
Frequently asked questions
What are the main events in Ischia in September 2026?
The three highlights of the month are the festival of Santa Maria al Monte in Forio on 12 September, Andar per Cantine starting 18 September with departure from Panza, and the celebrations for San Michele Arcangelo in Sant'Angelo on 29 September. On top of these are the town-level events of the first week and the philosophy festival La Filosofia, il Castello e la Torre, which runs the whole month.
Is it worth coming to Ischia in September for the events?
Yes, and it's the best month to do it: September's festivals are the ones islanders feel most strongly about, and they take place in villages that would be impractical for the crowds in July and August. On top of that, the sea is still summery and hotel rates are already low season.
Do you need to book for Ischia's events?
It depends. Patron saint festivals and village fairs are free and open to all. Andar per Cantine requires mandatory booking, since it involves a shuttle, a guide and a tasting with limited spots. The philosophy festival has free access to all its events.
How do you get between one event and another?
The island can be crossed by bus or taxi in about half an hour, coast to coast. On festival evenings, traffic towards the village involved slows down considerably, so it's worth moving early or using public transport instead of a car.
