Lacco Ameno is Ischia's smallest town, on the north-western coast, recognisable for the Fungo rock and San Montano bay.
Lacco Ameno is Ischia's smallest municipality by area, on the north-western coast. Pithecusae, the oldest Greek colony in mainland Italy, once stood on its territory, and it's home to San Montano bay, one of the island's most sheltered inlets.
San Montano bay is the main beach: sandy, with calm, shallow waters, suited to families. The Marina stretch, facing the Fungo, is also in the town centre.
Lacco Ameno is reached by bus or car from Ischia Porto in about 15-20 minutes. It has no passenger port: the closest harbour is Casamicciola, about 2 km away.
Suited to couples and those seeking a smart, quiet setting, with direct access to one of the island's most sheltered bays.
