Anyone who already knows the Amalfi Coast knows that the order of the stops changes the character of the day considerably: this excursion offers the reverse route to the classic Positano-Amalfi tour, with the advantage of reaching Positano in the afternoon, when the low, warm light brings out the pastel colours of the houses and the shadows lengthen across the bay — one of the most photographed views on the entire coast.Departure is from the same main landing points on Ischia — Forio, Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola and Ischia Porto — sailing towards Amalfi, the ancient maritime republic that gave the whole coast its name. Landing at the pier puts you within a few minutes' walk of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, recognisable by its black-and-white striped Arab-Norman façade and the staircase overlooking the main square; the Cloister of Paradise, with its intertwining arches, is one of the most evocative stops for anyone with time for a closer look.
After free time in Amalfi — also useful for lunch on fresh fish or the local Amalfi lemon, known as sfusato, served as a granita or a delizia al limone — the boat continues on to Positano, where time stretches out among the beachwear boutiques, the steps down to Marina Grande beach, and the viewpoints that deliver the coast's most iconic shot.
Departures are available three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday — giving more flexibility than the twin excursion, a useful detail for anyone planning a short stay with less room to adjust their schedule. As with the other version, travelling by boat removes the stress of traffic on the SS163, one of the busiest roads in Italy during the summer months.
