Spas, scenic thermal pools and small, well-kept properties: the options best suited to a holiday for two.
Ischia has always been known for its thermal culture, and several of the properties we select have a wellness centre or an in-house spa — more than half of our catalogue. For a couples' getaway, size matters too: a small, well-kept hotel or a boutique relais gives a different atmosphere from a large resort.
13 of the 18 properties we select have a wellness centre or an in-house spa, often with a scenic thermal pool: it's the island's historic strength, and for a couple it's the simplest reason to choose Ischia over another destination.
Alongside the larger resorts, we also select smaller hotels and a boutique relais in the heart of Ischia Porto: a more intimate atmosphere, fewer people, more attention.
Sant'Angelo and Sorgeto's thermal beach, in the municipality of Serrara Fontana, remain the island's most photographed stretch of coast: worth a day trip even if you're not staying there.
You don't necessarily need a full week: some of our offers cover short 2-3 night stays, convenient for a romantic getaway even a brief one.
A short distance from Forio, Sorgeto beach isn't just any stretch of sand: it's a series of natural pools where thermal water flows straight out between the rocks and mixes with the sea. It's the experience most often mentioned by those looking for something different from a hotel spa — free, outdoors, and more atmospheric at sunset or late in the evening, once the daytime crowd thins out. We cover it in detail in the guide to Ischia's beaches.
Sunset from Citara, in Forio, remains one of the island's most photographed moments. A short distance away, La Mortella Gardens offer a more intimate botanical route, easy to combine with dinner nearby. Those who prefer the open sea can choose a boat tour of the island, while the Aragonese Castle, visited in the late afternoon, is less crowded and more atmospheric with the sunset light over the sea below.
Sant'Angelo, a pedestrian village in the municipality of Serrara Fontana, remains the most scenic base for those seeking atmosphere: narrow lanes, a small harbour, Sorgeto's thermal beach just minutes away. Forio is the more practical alternative, with more choice of restaurants and the sunset coast within walking distance. The area-by-area comparison is in the guide where to stay on Ischia.
For a romantic getaway, months with fewer crowds matter more than elsewhere: September and October offer the same access to the thermal spas as high summer, but with a quieter island and less full properties — better conditions even for a weekend organised at short notice. The season-by-season detail is in the guide on when to go to Ischia.
